Path Construction proudly accepts the 2023 IDOT Contractor of the Year Award in the Small Construction Project category for our work on IDOT 62R32: Reconstruction of bridge beam ends on Touhy Ave over the Des Plaines River.
Our team encapsulated the bridge beam ends with cutting-edge Ultra High-Performance Concrete. The meticulous process involved crafting a precise mock-up in our shop and seamlessly implementing the design above the river. We had to core holes through the bridge deck, enabling us to pump the UHPC through PVC tubing into our formwork. This innovative approach marked a significant milestone, introducing a new product for both IDOT and Path Construction.
Throughout the project, we navigated several challenges including river flooding, harsh temperatures, and constrained working spaces. Despite these obstacles, our team’s dedication prevailed, leading us to finish the project two months ahead of schedule. Our strategic relocation of deck holes and a streamlined approach spared the need for two-stage completion, ultimately saving the state approximately 8%.
