Project Overview
Path Construction is delivering a 53,000 SF, three-story EMS training facility expansion at the Joint Public Safety Training Campus in Chicago, IL. The scope introduces dedicated training environments for emergency medical services, fire, and law enforcement personnel, as well as administrative offices and simulation spaces designed for real-world response scenarios. Program elements include classrooms, private offices, circulation corridors, and immersive training environments such as a mock bar and residential units used for scenario-based instruction.
Scope and Systems
The addition ties into the campus’s active infrastructure, including modifications to water, gas, fire protection, communications, and fire alarm systems. A new electrical service includes a ComEd-provided pole and transformer feeding new switchgear. The facility also incorporates a full communications and security buildout to support operational readiness and life safety requirements.
Active Campus Construction
Construction is occurring within an operational training campus. Work affecting existing facilities is performed during the second shift or weekends, with limited first-shift activity executed under approved logistics plans. Temporary fencing, barricades, and controlled access routes maintain separation between construction zones and active training operations.
Schedule and Execution
The work follows a 20-month schedule. Defined communication protocols between the construction manager, owner, and user agency support planning for critical tie-ins and phased work. These constraints drive sequencing decisions and require consistent schedule discipline across all trades.
Project Impact
The EMS Addition expands campus training capacity and introduces dedicated simulation and ambulance training environments not previously available. The facility supports long-term program growth and strengthens first responders’ training for field conditions across Chicago.
