This project involved the restoration and replacement of several digester tanks at the Schaumburg Water Reclamation Plant. Work included replacing two 100-foot-diameter tank membranes, removing digester sludge, cleaning, and refurbishing two metal tanks, as well as rehabilitating four additional digester tanks. Upgrades included new gas holding membranes, water and sewage piping, and sandblasting and high-performance recoating of the tank structures. All work was performed while maintaining plant operations, requiring careful sequencing, precise lifting and access strategies, and stringent safety protocols. Challenges included working with aging infrastructure, confined spaces, and the need to keep critical water treatment processes online throughout construction. The project improved reliability and extended the service life of the facility’s digester systems.
