At the Gurnee Water Reclamation Plant in Gurnee, IL, this industrial renovation upgraded the aeration system of a 10,000 SF treatment basin. Work included removing and replacing seven aeration motors and piping blowers, installing new air mixture systems to meet EPA standards, and adding a nitrification system. Four sluice gates were replaced, existing aeration piping was redesigned from below- to above-grade, and the auxiliary basin concrete foundation was reinforced. The project required careful handling of aged mechanical equipment, restricted access to critical systems, and sequencing work to maintain continuous plant operation. Specialized lifting methods, including cranes and gantries, were employed to safely replace components, while upstream system rerouting minimized disruptions. Complex mechanical, process, and electrical upgrades were completed to enhance performance and regulatory compliance.
