This project successfully completed the essential replacement of aging skylight systems at two critical Metra maintenance facilities: the 47th Street Diesel Shop and the 49th Street Coach Shops. The comprehensive scope involved the removal of the deteriorating existing skylights and the installation of modern, high-performance replacements. This vital infrastructure upgrade ensures improved natural daylighting within the shops, enhancing the working environment for maintenance personnel. Crucially, the replacement addressed structural integrity and eliminated potential points of water infiltration, providing superior waterproofing and energy efficiency. By modernizing the overhead structures at both the Diesel and Coach Shops, Metra is ensuring the long-term protection of valuable rolling stock and critical equipment, thereby improving operational reliability across the rail system.
